You were never the one who needed fixing. Your bad days aren't the problem. We built the app around them.

Alongside: one coach for your body and your wellbeing — meeting you exactly where you are today.

  • You've tried the other apps. This one was built differently.
  • Movement that works on your worst days, not just your best.
  • For the woman whose body changes and the programme never did.
  • You're not the reason other apps didn't work for you.
  • This is what it feels like when a coach actually pays attention.

You are not alone

Every person who found this page arrived here the same way.
Something wasn't working. And they wondered if it was them.
It wasn't.

Sound familiar?

  • You've given up on more than one app already.
  • Nobody noticed when you stopped.
  • Coming back felt like starting again from nothing.

What makes this different

Ready when you are.

Listens to how you say you are, every day.

Adjusts to who you are today, not to where you're supposed to be.

What the coach says, word for word

This is your coach. They don't have a name — but they know yours. Every line below is one the app says.

Your check-ins have shown low energy for a while.

"Your energy has been low for a while now, not just today. I'll keep things gentle until it lifts."

You check in and say your lower back is quite sore.

"You said your lower back is quite sore today. 6 movements that could make it worse are left out today; skip anything else that hurts it."

You say you're struggling this morning.

"You said you're struggling today. Wellbeing has the quieter things, if that's more like it."

Behind the magic

Why did the other apps make me feel worse about myself?

97% of people stop using fitness apps within a year. Research consistently identifies the same cause: shame. Streak-loss, rigid targets, and punishment for absence trigger disengagement — particularly in neurodivergent users and women navigating hormonal change.

— Bondaronek et al., British Journal of Health Psychology, October 2025

Graeme's reflection: I'd quit three fitness apps before I started building this one. They kept telling me to push, and then I got injured and the apps continued to treat me like I was fully fit. They refused to accept I needed adjustment. This is the gap Alongside is trying to close.

What does the science say actually works?

Burnout is nervous system dysregulation, not tiredness. Pushing through makes it worse.

— Dr Claire Plumbly, Burnout: How to Manage Your Nervous System, 2024

So Alongside never pushes. When your check-ins show your energy has been low for a while, the coach says so and keeps things gentle until it lifts. It is not a medical device.

Self-compassion improves motivation, not reduces it. Removing shame correlates with stronger resilience, better barrier self-efficacy, and more sustainable physical activity over time.

— Zhang et al., British Journal of Health Psychology, 2025

Graeme's reflection: I built the app's gentler days before I read Plumbly's research. When I did read it, I felt seen by a book for the first time in years. I knew the feeling, I just couldn't name it. That's exactly the feeling I want Alongside to give people.

What happens when someone finally pays attention?

Other-oriented empathy — genuinely caring about others — is protective against burnout. Self-oriented responses, like guilt and distress, are risk factors. Being consistently met with dignity may gradually change how people relate to themselves, and then to others.

— Empathy types and burnout meta-analysis, Psychology, Health & Medicine, November 2025

Graeme's reflection: Being understood changes us. People who feel genuinely seen become, over time, slightly better at seeing others. That's the long horizon Alongside is building toward.

The human behind it

I quit three fitness apps before I built this one.

They kept telling me to push through. My body kept telling me something different.

After burnout, and years of rebuilding — I made the thing I needed.

I hope you find it useful.

The rest is yours.

The castle

Most people who've struggled with fitness apps haven't failed.
The apps failed to understand them.

Five percent of everything we make goes to causes our community votes on.

Because how you care for yourself and how you care for the world are the same thing.

There's more underneath this, if you want it.
